Welcome to From Molecule to Mist! This site is where I dive into the Science behind the ingredients used in MAC Fix+ and attempt to reformualte
Titration is the process of slowly adding the titrant solution to the analyte suntil a desired chemical reaction or endpoint is reached (in our case we are aiming for a pH of 5.2 ish). The Titrant is the solution placed in the burette or pipette. We did not use any indicator, simply waited and continued to slowly check the pH drop b drop
In your case:
L-Arginine = titrant (a strong base)
Project mist = analyte (slightly acidic due to botanical extracts and sorbic acid)
Endpoint = pH 4.5
This happened instantly and I had to use 5 drops of citric acid to bring the pH back down from about 5.98 back to 5.23 which worked out perfectly
This procss included :
Adding a known base to an acidic system
Monitoring the pH change
Stopping when you hit your target pH
